                               Accessories            

 

         

In the Specs are mentioned a pair of oars, and on the gunwales are a pair of wooden bosses to take rowlocks.  Oars and rowlocks were. of course missing.   I really wondered where on earth one could stow a full-size pair of oars on this little vessel, and, as usual had nothing to compare.

I decided on sectional oars which could be stowed in a locker under the reat seat.   First though, I had to make the rowlocks.  To do this I hand-worked them from round steel bar

However I still think that serious rowing from this seating position could be a chore.  Someone suggested that a rower might actually be standing up.  Let's hope I never need to find out !! In this lttle locker under the rear seat I also kept a storage space for essential hand tools and small spare parts. I am pleased with the way they do not intrude when stowed.  

 

 

   

 

The Specs have the anchor as a " CQR ", which I found out stands for " Clyde Quick release".   Being a Clydesider myself I found that quite appropriate!.   This I sourced in the south of France, and is now stowed in the starboard engine locker.

All the ropes are modern material but with the authentic period appearance.  They are pleasant to handle as well..

Two fire extinguishers had been fitted on the originals.  These were the Pyrene type, filled with carbon tetrachloride, and totally illegal now.  To keep the look, I 'modified' them and inserted modern aerosol types.  The tops are held on by a brass chain.  When fitted in their holders, you cannot tell the difference !  one, up front and the other aft

In the port cubby I fitted a couple of 'essentials' !   a Leatherman multi-tool and a hip-flask with a decent single Malt !.

Thanks again to  Ebay, I located an original hand-worked brass bilge-pump.   There are two other electric ones under the floorboards, fore and aft. ( I apologise for the photo quality-- I should take it again 

Alongside each of the lifting eyes under the floorboards I have bought two new 2ton slings.  These will easily lift the vessel if it ever comes to it.  I am not planning doing that any time soon !   Other " accessories" include my WW2 (1942) duffel coat, and the white ensign which I acquired new from the ' Ark Royal'. . .also a WW2 battery powered loudhailer.   I was very pleased to discover that when I needed the rear standard mast for the ensign. . . .( The Specs gave exact dimensions, including the taper) -- I had a yard-broom shaft which was absolutely perfect !!!
